A little about "the boys":
Pepper is a former lesson pony here at FHF. He has been the safe, trusted beginner's pony for many years both here at FHF and elsewhere. He's not exactly a young man anymore (he's about 27 years old) and so he was retired from the FHF lesson program in December, 2009.
Don't let that fool you! He's got plenty of life left, and he certainly doesn't want a full retirement - he'd be bored out of his mind!
Frankie is Pepper's best friend. They have been inseparable buddies for years. He is a 9 year old Miniature Donkey, standing a mere 27" high at the withers (shoulder blades). Frankie loves to be petted, brushed, and fussed over by children. He is also great for children who are a bit nervous, as he's quite little compared to a regular pony!
Both the boys absolutely love getting in the trailer and going for a little adventure to a new place to meet new people. They truly love doing this! If they didn't enjoy this so much, we would never ask them to do this. We believe that horses should enjoy their jobs, and these two definitely do! They love the attention, and they both have a fondness for children. They certainly are not the typical grouchy, sour little ponies I have often seen giving pony rides at various events.
