Horseback Riding Lessons

News Update! As of May 2010 I will not be offering lessons at FHF anymore due to retiring most of my school horses.  I will however be teaching riding lessons at Teal Lake Farm in Owensville (about 10 minutes from FHF).  I'm excited to be working out of Teal Lake as it's the farm I grew up riding and working at!  My former riding instructor, Donna Goorian, and myself are pleased to be working together to start up a new lesson program at Teal Lake.  The facilities and the school horses there are lovely, and we'll finally have a nice indoor when winter comes!
If you'd like to look up directions, the address is 2301 Whitmer Rd.,  Batavia, OH, 45103.

Lessons are $45 for one hour and are for ages 9 and up - adults are welcome, too!  Beginners will learn to groom, tack, and untack their horse during that hour and will have approximately 30 minutes in the saddle.  More experienced riders will be expected to arrive 30 minutes before their lesson and stay 30 minutes after to care for their horse.  This is to provide you with a full hour of ride time.  Parents are welcome to drop their child off for the lesson, or stay and watch.  Beginners may ride in a well fitting bike helmet, jeans, and sturdy boots with a heel.  Within the first month riders will be expected to purchase an ASTM approved riding helmet, paddock boots, chaps, and riding gloves.

Your Instructors

Shawn Ratliff has been riding hunters and dressage for 18 years, and teaching for 6 years.  She teaches beginner/intermediate hunters as well as dressage from beginners through those learning basic lateral work.  She also offers riding lessons on your own horse at your place for $30.

Donna Goorian has over 25 years of experience teaching hunters and equitation and has had many horses and riders showing on the A Circuit and winning some of the biggest ribbons in the country.  She teaches beginner - advanced hunters solely at Teal Lake Farm.

We accept all levels of riders, from beginner children and adults to advanced riders.
